About Penny and Fred
Penny began her fostering career as a single mom in 1992 and has supported over 40 youth of various cultures and ages while addressing a wide range of emotional, educational and behavioural needs. Her certification as an Educational Assistant enhances her ability to support placements that struggle academically. She has worked in alternative educational environments, residential group homes and foster care
Penny and Fred married in 2005 and they share a blended family of three grown children and two grandchildren. Their extended family spans Canada coast to coast so summer vacations could easily mean East or West Coast trips. Foster children would be welcomed to join them!
Penny and Fred thrive on positive reinforcement programs geared to age. They range from sticker charts for younger children to tiered level incentive programs for adolescents that support youth in making better choices for a happier outcome. Goals are particular to each individual with accomplishments celebrated for effort as well as successes.
Penny and Fred reside in a newly built 3 level townhouse in West Belleville close to the Bay of Quinte, local Conservation Areas, Zwick Park, Waterfront Trail and schools. Their 4-bedroom, 2½ bath home is a 10 minute drive to Trenton, the YMCA, Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre and the Quinte Mall for shopping, movie theatres and restaurant outings. A local bus stop is within walking distance.
There are two small dogs at this home. One is extremely friendly to everyone and one takes a bit more time getting to know people but once she does she loves to be pet and brushed. Both dogs love long walks especially to local beaches.
Both Penny & Fred enjoy sharing walks with their dogs, reading and creating stained glass art. Outings to fall fairs, summer camps, beaches, kayaking, swimming, visits to historical forts, museums, pioneer villages, board and card games, crafting, and movie nights are some of the activities they enjoy. The local YMCA offers a plethora of sports activities including swimming and various other seasonal sessions/lessons that can be accessed with a YMCA pass. Their home utilizes an annual Ontario Provincial Parks pass to enjoy activities at the Sandbanks, North Beach, Presqu’ile and Algonquin Provincial Parks.
